Neurotypical privilege is telling a neuroatypical person that her neurotype would be cured if she had gone to preschool.
Neurotypical privilege is being able to tell your significant other that they shouldn’t talk about their neurodiversity because it’s “something you should keep to yourself”.
Friendly reminder that unless it is a person with psychosis self-IDing as ‘psycho’, that term is a slur against the mentally ill and against individuals with psychosis/psychotic disorders specifically and if I see you using ‘psycho’ as an insult, as a person with psychosis, I will punch you in the face
!!!! Yes, this. ^ Also with the personally punching you in the face thing.
(This also goes for using “delusional” & “schizo” as a derogatory)
Neurotypical privilege is not being denied life-saving health services in hospitals because of your neurotype. (Based on this quote)
Our legitimacy as neurodivergent persons is always conditional on what the neurotypical wants. And that is some fucked up ableism.
neurotypical privilege is never having to hear people act surprised upon finding out your neurotype because “you’re so nice and happy and pretty and smart! there’s no way you’re not normal!”
Neurotypical privilege is not having to explain your neurotype to your counselor because he has never heard of it even if he is a professional
There has been a lot of shitty news recently, both terrible tragedies and people being really bigoted. I have decided to withdraw for a mental health break for a few days. The queue is still running, but I won’t be reblogging things or answering questions. I will answer any questions asked/ process all submissions when I return.
Neurotypical privilege is not having your best friend being ableist and harmful to the autistic community, then refuse to listen to you when you call him out on his shit because “you’re not a psychologist and you don’t have autism anyway, why do you even care it’s annoying” (I do have dyspraxia and autistic traits and I’m fairly active with the community, I know far better than him saying autism can totally be the cause of school shootings jfc).
In the end telling you you’re stupid for having panic attacks over that and telling you you’re annoying with your “disease” and the importance you put in calling out ableism (basically everything I stand for), then when you get upset over that because dyspraxia is not a disease, telling you that it’s your fault for not educating him (of all the people, he’s been through the entire diagnosis process with me when I was 17 and he dares telling me it’s all my fault)
TLDR : Neurotypical privilege is not having your NT friend think he can speak over you about your neurology and think you’re annoying for trying to stand up for your rights and for autistic people’s rights.
I guess I lost a friend. My best friend since I was 15. Amazing. I’ve had panic attacks all night. He’s been trying to reach out to me since then (yesterday) but I refuse to talk to him again. … Guess I needed to rant very badly
also can we please stop referring to non-neurotypical people/characters as ‘broken’
like do you even understand how fucking rude that is
Caviat: I think it is ok for the character to refer to themself that way IF s/he is down on…
